A marriage made in Rochford

Bride and Groom showered with confetti

On Sunday the family was going to the wedding of the In–Laws family friend. Yes, Sunday is an odd day to have a wedding but there was a reason for it. The Bride was apparently ‘date obsessed’. The 8th October was the day that they had met, got engaged and so the marriage day was just falling into line. Word from the Large is that The Bridegroom had better not forget the anniversary!

Not rollicking Rochford but resplendent Rochford!

The venue was the rather wonderful ‘Lawns’ in Rochford. A very swish and no doubt expensive haunt that looked even more immaculate for the glorious weather that ’er upstairs had decided to bestow. It was the sort of place that would have been perfect for Fred, Ginger or Audrey to relax while listening to F Scott Fitzgerald reading his latest work.

The marriage was performed at the venue and so was a civil ceremony (in more ways than one — I didn’t have to sing). This is great for anyone that has small(er) children as they tend to be shorter services and the kids don’t keep asking you when it will finish.

After the ceremony I watched as The Girl and her cousins enjoyed a good couple of hours of running around the lovely garden at the back of the house. At the far end of the garden was a field nearly hidden by shrubbery that would occasionally allow glimpses of a galloping white horse. Now that’s what you call attention to romantic detail.

Some things never go out of fashion

As well as the usual trades present (photographer / videographer / DJ) they had a proper emcee and a harpist! Believe me you haven’t lived until you’ve heard Coldplays’ ‘Clocks’ soloed on the harp ;-).

The celebration continued with a very nice sit–down meal (we were at the Van Gogh sic table) with a side order of speeches and complementary drinks. For me the cake, by itself, was worth the all of the usual pre–wedding kafuffles.

Woe is me

A good time was had by all the Large entourage. The only downers were:

  • that my slowly recovering foot couldn’t manage to get–up to ‘get down’ during the evenings disco and;
  • due to it being a Sunday we had to leave early to get The Girl up for school in the morning.

Finally…

So our thanks for a wonderful afternoon/evening to Tony and Sue (the parents of The Bride) and my sincere wishes to The Bride and Groom for a happy fulfilling life together.
