BBC in bed with Micro$oft?
A slightly worrying news item on the BBC network today said that they had signed an agreement with Microsoft “to explore ways of developing its digital services”. Why should this be worrying? If you use one of the other operating systems on your computer Microsoft can be less than concerned about your accessibility to their ‘developments’.
Don’t get me wrong I love the BBC. No really. There is very little that the BBC has done in the last 10 years on any medium that I have a problem with (OK maybe taking TOTPs off the air upset me a little but I can understand why they did it).
But them meeting up with Billy–boy for a little tête–à–tête could lead to more problems when accessing content on the (currently) wonderful BBC websites. I have had no problems (for the last couple of years) accessing stuff on the BBC sites including ‘Listen Again’, listening to live radio, watching video etc all the stuff that can be a pain to do on Microsoft–focused sites (and they all seem to have mis–spelt ‘DUM’ the same way ‘DRM’).
The best bit of the item was this quote from Mr Gates:
Microsoft’s strength is in driving digital innovation, and our vision is to open up rich, new consumer experiences that allow people to enjoy digital content anytime, anywhere and on any device.
Wow I never knew he was so community–friendly — I must have got him all wrong all these years!
